About Drummohr
Our peaceful and picturesque camping and glamping site is conveniently located close to the shores of the Firth of Forth, 2 miles from Musselburgh and only 10 miles from the vibrant Scottish city of Edinburgh, easily accessible by bus and train. Drummohr is therefore a great place to live and work, with plentiful local amenities and the beautiful beaches and golf courses of East Lothian just a short drive.
Here
at Drummohr we aim to give our guests an unforgettable experience whatever the
weather and allow them to create long-lasting memories.
Since April 2021 Drummohr has been
owned by employee-owned business WCF Ltd,
who also operate 2 further 5-star camping sites in Northumberlandand
the Peak DistrictPeak District.
Make Yourselves at Home
A
large proportion of the Drummohr team live on site and are proud to call the
site their home as well as their place of work. They are actively encouraged to
run the site as if were their own and are deeply passionate about providing our
guests the warmest of welcomes from their initial enquiry right until they
return home. Many of our guests return year after year to visit friends and
family or enjoy the Edinburgh attractions and events. Alongside our small
number of seasonal pitch holders we are lucky to call many of them our friends.
We welcome their ongoing advocacy and loyalty to our Edinburgh campsite.
Continuous Improvement
By talking to our guests, visiting other sites and benchmarking best practice,
here at Drummohr we are confident we know what good looks like. But hospitality
can be cruel and we are never complacent. We are always striving to make those
continuous improvements that improve our facilities and our amenities, no
matter how small. Each guest review is read and carefully considered before
being personally responded to. Where we see a good idea on one of our other 5-star
campsites we seek to implement it across the other two. As part of their
ongoing role, our team are encouraged to find better ways to improve the guest
experience at our Edinburgh campsite. We expect everyone to work to the same
high standards and have the same passion for our campsite as we do.
Our Campsite Roles Here at Drummohr
Whether you work as a campsite warden, operations or maintenance assistant,
gardener or housekeeper, we try to give our people diverse and interesting
roles and seek to ensure that no two days are the same. As a small team,
building a great rapport and level of respect and trust with other members of
the team is a must. Everyone
is expe cted to equally pull their weight.
You will be expected to proactively turn
your hands to whatever needs doing, both inside and outdoors. This is not a
role where you sit in the office and the hours can be unpredictable
particularly on a Friday evening when we have a large number of guest arrivals.
It is inevitable that there is a large amount of cleaning and hot tub emptying
particularly on changeover days. There are also days when you will be required
to be outdoors regardless of the weather. Resilience and flexibility are
therefore two important things you will need if you take a job with us.
Thinking on your feet in a variety of
situations, some of which you will not have experienced before, is the key to
being a successful campsite warden at Drummohr. Often you will be on duty as a
couple on your own and there may not be anyone immediate to turn to. Our
employee owners are given sufficient levels of autonomy to make the best
decisions for our guests, so good problem-solving skills are a must. It isn’t a
9-5 job and sometimes guest arrivals are disrupted timing wise by travel
disruption and there may be no set “clocking off” time on busy days. You will also be expected to deal
with guest complaints politely no matter how unfair you think they are.
Waving the 5-Star Flag
When WCF acquired the site in 2021 we set ourselves a 5-star vision and our
team are extremely proud of our Visit Scotland an AA 5-star status, as well as
the various campsite awards we have been lucky enough to win. We are also proud
to be a Premier Park, a selection of 100 campsites offering the highest of
standards.
We
all work extremely hard to maintain the facilities at our Edinburgh campsite to
the highest of standards. One poor review caused by laziness or complacency can
ruin the trust that our guests place in us and be read by future guests for
months and years to come.
We strive for a 95% success rate on our 5-star guest reviews, with most guests mentioning the friendliness and commitment of the team here at Drummohr as well as the cleanliness of our facilities and the convenience of our location. We expect our teams to go above and beyond to make the guests’ stay as memorable as possible and encourage them to book with us again. It’s why we have so many returning guests.
Supporting Our Local Community
We are proud of our Scottish heritage and want to give back to our local East
Lothian community. We directly support a range of charities through corporate
giving alongside some guest fundraising. We are corporate members of the Scottish
Wildlife Trust.
Our owner WCF has a number of
different charitable partnerships, as well as providing donations of both cash
and product to a range of local and national charities.
Our Team
We give our people diverse and interesting roles and empower them to contribute to the ongoing success of Drummohr by investing in ongoing training to ensure that our people have the skills they need and are engaged and confident enough to find better ways of doing things.
Our structure facilitates the
divestment of autonomy and responsibility through our Site Manager Angie Purves
and her team, allowing her to make good decisions on behalf of our guests. We
encourage the team to run this Edinburgh campsite as if it were their own. We
focus on ensuring that our teams receive a positive employee experience to
create high levels of employee engagement and staff retention. This allows our
people to retain high levels of personal connection with our loyal and
returning guests.
WCF are proud to be a Real Living
Wage employer which means that we pay our people a wage rate based on the real
cost of living, as well as providing free touring pitches for our on-site
campsite wardens. As part of a larger organisation our teams are also eligible
for a wide range of other benefits.
